The problem of computer touchers (of which I am) everywhere is that sometimes what they think is "stupid" and "shouldn't be done" is, unfortunately, something ppl do 1000s of times every day and actually want to do. [...] If I wanted to make my mentions a fucking nightmare for the day, I'd say this is also why genAI (unfortunately) won't go away anytime soon unless it crashes hard because "normies" (hate that word but ugh) actually love that shit.
[...]
All that is to say, it's easy for us "nerds" to assume that what we want is what the average user wants. Sometimes there's an overlap but not always! A less controversial (maybe?) example I think about often is whenever I read stuff like "why is [my favorite chat app] doing [thing that seems frivolous]??? that's stupid" and not even a day later I'll see someone else (who isn't as terminally online/a nerd) be like "I love [frivolous thing] inside [my favorite chat app], it's great!!"
